Other Events and Options

We recognize that Newport is a long way to come for one regatta, therefore we invite visiting boats to come early and race with the local New England 6mR fleet in other regattas. We encourage participation in three other regattas leading up to the World Cup, The Herreshoff Classic Rendez-Vous hosted by the Herreshoff Museum in Bristol, RI (www.herreshoff.org), a 6mR Tune-up regatta in association with Ida Lewis Yacht Club as well as the Museum of Yachting Classic Regatta in Newport (www.moy.org). Entry in these regattas will require separate entry fees and registrations, all of which can be done online.

The full campaign would have the following dates: Herreshoff Rendez-Vous – August 22nd/23rd followed by a windward/leeward regatta in Newport in association with the Ida Lewis Yacht Club on the weekend of August 29th/30th then followed by the Museum of Yachting Classic Regatta September 5th/6th. Please note that the Herreshoff and MoY regattas are classic regattas and tend to be longer courses in a mixed fleet using the local Classic Rating Formula (CRF) rating. If enough 6mRs are interested in joining these regattas, we could appeal for our own start and eliminate the need for a CRF rating. For those interested in learning about the CRF rating, go to: (www.govcup.org/other/crform.pdf).

The Museum of Yachting Classic Regatta directly precedes the World Cup and would serve as a good warm-up for those tuning up their boats without their full crew or just want to sail on longer courses. At the same time, the New England 6mR fleet will have a separate course for windward/leeward races and will be competing for the North American Championships. Visiting yachts that are race ready and measured are invited to join in the North American Championships.
